Description

KPV is the three-residue C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH 11-13). Despite its very small size it remains active in a number of the assay systems where the full alpha-MSH sequence is active, which has made it a useful minimal-fragment probe in melanocortin research. The published literature centres on its behaviour in NF-kB and cytokine-signalling reporter models, and on the structure-activity question of how a tripeptide can reproduce effects attributed to a 13-residue parent peptide.
